The people of Ijebuland on Wednesday urged the National Assembly to
create an Ijebu State out of the present Ogun State, saying they
had met the constitutional requirements for the actualisation of the process.
The Ijebu people also said in further pursuit of their demand for
a state of their own, this year’s Ojude Oba Festival, which would be
attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu
Tambuwal, and Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, would be an avenue to
drum up support for the creation of Ijebu State.
The Coordinator of this year’s Ojude Oba Festival, Chief Fasi Yusuf,
said this during a press conference to herald the 2013 edition of
the event to be sponsored by telecommunications firm, Globacom.
At the press conference were by the Globacom Marketing Coordinator, Adeniyi Olukoya, and the Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Yewande Amusan.
Yusuf said the area had met the necessary criteria as
stipulated in Section 8 (1) (a) to (d) of the 1999 Constitution for the creation of a state.
