CASHLESS POLICY HAS HELPED IMPROVE OUR IGR-OGSG

The cashless policy adopted by the Ogun State Government has been yielding positive results as the Internally Generated Revenue from higher institutions in the State has increased by over 198%.

 Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Ajibola Chokor disclosed this today in Abeokuta while addressing members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation at the start of budget performance monitoring of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government in the State.

Mrs. Chokor recalled that government adopted the policy in August 2012 in the institutions to block leakages as well as promote accountability and transparency, saying same had been introduced in different MDAs this January to improve revenue generation.

            She explained that revenue monitoring interventions put in place by her Ministry had also assisted significantly in improving revenue generated into the coffers of government.      

According to the Permanent Secretary, plans had reached advanced stage to implement the Land Use and Amenities Charge Bill just passed by the Assembly and that compliance enforcement on building and title document approval would be reeled out later this month.

Speaking after the exercise which also took members to the Ministry of Budget and Planning and the State Internal Revenue Service, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Olusola Bankole said he was impressed about the budget performance of all the MDAs visited.

He explained that the exercise was part of the lawmakers’ oversight functions to promote good governance and called on the headship of the remaining MDAs yet to be visited to accord it required attention.
