MARITIME Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, yesterday, described the recent killings of no fewer than 72 students of the College of Agriculture in Yobe State, by suspected Boko Haram sect, as not only senseless and but unjustifiable.
At a prayer session yesterday for Nigeria and its President-General, Tony Nted who also marked his 53rdbirthday, leaders of the union called on the sponsors and the perpetrators of heinous crime to repent and embrace God, arguing that violence and killing of innocent citizens would definitely lead them to destruction.
The union called on royal fathers, religious leaders, political and other leaders in the country especially in the northern part of the country to wade in and ensure that these orgies of violence and wanton destruction of lives were brought to an end before it became too late.
Addressing members and friends at the praying session, Nted called on Nigerians to love another, be tolerant have the fear of God, and avoid hatred, wickedness and be their brothers’ keepers.
According to him “those that killed the innocent students of of Agriculture in Yobe State have no conscience and are not fit to live among civilized people. Any person that has a conscience cannot kill a fellow human being for whatever reason.”
“What will they say is their gain? These students were not politicians or businessmen, but people who were in the scholl to get knowledge.
“Why should people allow the devil to take over their soul? These dastardly and heinous killings are not justifiable by any standard. They should repent and seek God forgiveness.
“We call on royal fathers, religious leaders, political and other leaders in northern Nigerian to wade in ensure that these orgies of violence and wanton destruction lives and property are brought to end before it is too late.
“We believe the earlier these leaders live up to expectations, the better for everybody.”
