Students Don’t Want Us To End Strike – ASUU

In a telephone interview with newsmen, the President of the union, Dr. Isa Fagge, said  students were tired of the incessant industrial actions by the university lecturers due to the Federal Government’s failure to implement the agreement it had with ASUU since 2009.
Fagge said the union had decided to heed the advice of the students to continue the strike until the Federal Government fully implemented the agreement.
“Our students have come out to say they don’t want us to call off the strike until the Federal Government answers us, because they don’t want us to call off now and later we go back to strike again. So, we are heeding the advice of our students,” he said.
On the complaint by the Federal Government that it lacked the funds to implement the agreement, Fagge said it was not all about money, noting that government did not need funds to start implementing some parts of the agreement.
“There are issues and agreement they can implement without money. Why don’t they begin with those ones?” he asked.
He added that it was unfortunate that the government had pulled out of dialogue with ASUU, stating that the union would not be intimidated.
He said, “Now, government has pulled out of the dialogue. We thought we were the ones going on strike, but now government has also gone on strike.”
Last Thursday, university students under the auspices of the National Association of Nigerian Students reportedly staged a peaceful protest in Ado-Ekiti and flayed the Federal Government for failing to honour the agreement it had with ASUU since 2009.
The students, who were from public universities, threatened to disrupt activities of private universities, adding that the government was not bothered about their plight because children of government officials were studying either in private universities or studying overseas.
The university lecturers began an indefinite strike on July 1 and have been demanding full implementation of the agreement ASUU had with the Federal Government in 2009, which among other things include the UNESCO-recommended 26 per cent budgetary allocation for education. However, the government said it could not implement the agreement, and is seeking re-negotiation.
The Federal Government, last Wednesday, accused ASUU of being unrealistic by continuing its nationwide strike and asked it to rethink its demands, considering other commitments government has.
The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, who gave government’s position on the strike when he briefed journalists at the end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council, said apart from security, education was one of the sectors the government had expended a lot of money on.

Jonathan Made Me 25th World’s Richest Man — DANGOTE

Dangote disclosed this in Nairobi when President Goodluck Jonathan met with the Nigerian community in Kenya.  The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was part of the activities lined up for the three-day visit of President Jonathan to Kenya, which began Thursday.

Dangote, who was on the entourage of the president to Kenya, told the gathering that Jonathan had done a lot to improve the business climate in Nigeria.  “I want to tell you what the president has been doing in Nigeria. He is very humble and may not want to sing about what he has been doing.

“I will tell you what he has been doing to Nigerians and to some of us who are in business in Nigeria. We are very grateful for some of the policies he has introduced.  “As you all know, without good policies of government, there is no way a person like me from a big town like Kano can rise from a humble beginning to become the 25th richest person on earth.

“Without the policies of the president and also making sure that there is consistency in the policies of the government, this could not have happened,” he said

The ‘Kid’ In Wizkid

No doubt, the young lad has paid his dues as it were, for few years back, nobody would have thought the ‘errand boy’ would grow to become this big. Indeed, his talents and luck, shone and now, Wizkid is a superstar.
But it seems stardom is getting to his head.
Recently, the Internet was agog when the singer called a fan ‘broke’ for correcting a grammatical error he made.
The singer posted on his instagram that he was about to perform at a wedding with ‘an hangover’. The crime of the fan was telling Wizkid the correct thing to say was ‘a hangover’.
His reply angered fans who quickly reminded him that he was not born rich and it was the ‘broke’ fans who made him who he is at the moment.
Wiz hasn’t only been misbehaving online. The kid took his arrogance to another height when he allegedly poured his drink on a fan in London.
Speculation has it that all the fan did was to reach out to Wizkid to greet him. Probably trying to impress an American hip-hop sensation, Wiz allegedly called the fan, Oloshi (Idiot). The shocked American took to instagram to talk about Wiz’s atiitude.
Although the kid was lucky in London, luck ran out when he allegedly tried ignoring fans who had been waiting to get a glimpse of him in Lagos. This time the fans physically reacted to his arrogance.
Dear Wiz was reportedly stoned by angry fans at the VFS Global Services, Lekki Phase 1 over the his arrogant attitude and his refusal to part with some naira notes despite the much accolades he got from the cheering crowd who were so elated to catch a glimpse of him.
Apparently our wonder boy was in a foul mood or perharps, he wasn’t given a visa for he ‘boned’ and shunned the cheering crowd as he walked arrogantly into the waiting Porsche Cayenne.
It was gathered that Wizkid’s silence and arrogance got the cheering fans angrier and they stoned him as he drove off. Unfortunately for Wizkid, one of the stones hit his side mirror but he didn’t bother stopping anyway.
At the moment, not a few are angry with the kid and his attitude. Some fans told Saturday Beat that it was high time they “boycotted Wizkid.”
Another fan Reginald said, “Wizzy is just a kid and that is what he will be until he grows up! Let’s keep praying he grows soon.”

Daniel’s trial: EFCC wakes up to its task after witness accuses commission of fooling Nigerian

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has commenced further investigations on the former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, after the star witness withdrew from the case.

Tunde Oladunjoye, a former Chairman of Ijebu-East Local Government, during the Daniel administration, was a witness put forward by the EFCC, to shed light on the alleged corruption charges against Daniel.

But Oladunjoye, last week, wrote a letter of withdrawal as addressed to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, in which he faulted the appointment of a former aide of the ex-Governor, Kayode Oladele, as the Commission’s Chief of Staff.

“This appointment, to say the least, is immoral and scandalous. Nigeria is now a subject of ridicule before the international community, he said.

”What other evidence do we need for Daniel’s new found confidence than the appointment of his counsel and ex-Special Adviser as your Chief of Staff? he quipped.

“I urge you to stop fooling Nigerians and assaulting our sensibilities. Remove the log in your own eyes too.”

Mr. Oladunjoye, stating that he stood by his statements and evidence made available to the Commission, then withdrew himself as witness for the Commission in its case against Mr. Daniel.

“With the appointment of Daniel’s Special Adviser as your Chief of Staff, I do not wish to further appear physically as your witness in the prolonged prosecution of Mr. Daniel. I am just too busy to waste my time further.”

DailyPost gathered that his letter which severely embarrassed the Ibrahim Lamorde-led commission prompted him to order a full investigation into the matter.

An insider told our correspondent that some of the international agencies and countries providing support for the Commission, have privately expressed dismay at EFCC “softness” in the handling of cases involving highly connected serving and ex-public Nigerian officials.

Arewa Cotton, FG, Ogun sign MoU

Subsequent to increase cotton and lint demands from local textile industries as well as exports, Arewa Cotton, a Nigerian natural fibre company, based in Abuja, has signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government and Ogun State government on the improved production and marketing of cotton.

The tripartite agreement, which is targeted at the cultivation of 20,000 hectares cotton farmland at Iwoye-Ketu, a rural community in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State and the production of 100,000 metric tons of lint for local textile manufacturers and exports, according to report, will cost Arewa Cotton between N1.5 billion and N2 billion at a start.

Having considered the commitment of farmers in the state towards cotton farming, coupled with the enabling factors provided the state government as regards cotton production and trading, Arewa Cotton is planning to relocate its ginnery — a cotton processing plant located in the Northern part of the country to Ogun State, in order to start as part of the agreement.

Speaking at the official roll-out of Growth Enhancement Support (GES) for cotton held at Iwoye-Ketu, recently, Adebayo Olayemi, financial controller of Arewa Cotton, noted that the company had signed MoU with the Federal Government to develop cotton in South-West and North-Central, as part of Arewa Cotton and government’s joint efforts to create wealth, generate jobs and meet up with the local and foreign demands.

Miss Nigeria pageant organisers battle Miss Nigeria 2011 over car

Miss Nigeria pageant organisers Daily Times Nigeria and Miss Nigeria 2011 queen Feyi Sodipo are currently not enjoying the best of relationship. They have been at loggerheads for sometime now over Daily Times’ attempt to take back the Hyundai Accent Feyi was given after being crowned the winner of the 2011 Miss Nigeria pageant. The organizers are yet to disclose why they want to take the car back but Feyi believes it’s because she got another car from the Ogun state government for being an ambassador for the state. A few weeks back there were reports that three people were arrested after they tried to forcefully retrieve the car from Feyi and even kidnap her.

Feyi spoke with Encomium mag about the incident and other troubles with Daily Times. She said:

“They have been trying to take my car for months now. They have been harassing me all around to surrender the car. The first time they tried it, they tried to for my car open. The second time I had to drive into a police station where the car was impounded and later released to me. Later, the Lagos Police Command invited me for a meeting. They spoke to me and Mr Anosike (Daily Times MD) and they requested I provided the car.

I told them it was in Ogun state and they gave me three policemen to follow me to Ogun state to retrieve the car, that’s where the kidnap story came from. I don’t understand why they keep requesting for a car I won alongside the crown at the pageant. Maybe because I was given another car by Ogun state governor for being an ambassador, but even at that it’s still my car. There was never an agreement that I should return the car after my reign. The car is presently with the police. I feel so harassed and humiliated. I didn’t enjoy my reign. Even when I wanted to go abroad for my scholarship, I couldn’t do that because when I asked for my scholarship which was part of what I won at the pageant, they told me it had expired. They didn’t do anything for me as a beauty queen. I was not even invited to this year’s pageant. I was the last queen and I should have crowned the next one, but they didn’t even invite me.”

ASUU STRIKE CONTINUES...

President, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, has categorically stated that the ongoing strike will not be called off since the Federal Government is not ready to meet ASUU’s demands.

Fagge, who made this declaration while speaking with P.M.NEWS Campus Square, also noted that the real essence of the strike action, as they have been saying is for the Federal Government to simply implement the agreement they made in 2009.

“I’m convinced that this is a good course that we have chosen for our education sector; to ensure that we get all that was agreed in 2009.
“The Federal Government are the ones on strike and not ASUU because they know what we want and can do it but just won’t do anything. Once they implement the agreement, everybody will be fine and we’ll get back to work,” he explained.

While responding to questions on whether the strike action would continue much more than it has been, Fagge bemoaned the fact that the students don’t actually understand what ASUU is fighting for.

He noted also, that ASUU has not been happy with the fact that they have been at home for the past two months but will feel worse if their reason for doing so is not achieved.

According to him, “do we just continue deceiving Nigerians when facilities are not in place for proper learning? We want to address the problems once and for all.

“We can’t call off the strike now and return to what we’ve been going through over the years. Or embark on the strike action again after three months or in one or two years’ time.”
He added that “we want the best for the students and calling off the strike without getting it will amount to a waste of time with all the protests. If the Federal Government doesn’t shift grounds, we’ll also remain here until we are attended to appropriately.”

The strike action has entered its seventh week.

Alhamdulilah, I thank God
WOW! £42.5 m, Mesut Özil is an Arsenal player! A Definite game changer!

The question now is..Do we have enough depth?

Let's have a look...

Goalkeeper isn't a problem at all, we've got 3 fit goalkeepers, and they barley get injured.

RB-Sagna & Jenkinson, they tend to injure a lot, but 2 RB'S Is enough..We can't have too much.

CB-Here we have a problem in my opinion, we've got just 3 quality CB'S And usually 1 of them is injured, we need another backup centre back. We should of got Sakho, young, world class and very chip. Let's hope not to have too much injuries or bans.

LB-No problem what so ever, 2 quality LB'S Who don't get injured a lot.

CM-Too much I can say, which is brilliant! Flamini, Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky, Cazorla, Özil, Zelalem, Diaby (If I can say), Gnabry and Frimpong. Amazing midfielders and a huge amount.

*Note-CM=All center midfield positions (CM,CDM,CAM etc')

RW-Once again, no problem..Walcott he is amazing <3 OX That is currently injured, but when fully fit is outstanding :) And usually they don't really get injured, so we are ok in that position ;)

LW-Same goes to LW. Podolski (Currently injured), Cazorla (Can play there), Ryo, Gnabry (If needed)..Once again, no problem.

ST-Our amazing inform striker, Giroud <3 He looks fit, and hopefully he won't get injured. However, he cannot play 50 or so games! As simple as that, we need a striker for cup games to let Giroud rest. That's a bit of a problem, as we have no other good striker. What we can do, is let Poldi play as ST Sometimes, Cazorla on the wing with Ryo being his substitute, and Özil, Wilshere and Ramsey at our midfield.

Overall, the team looks quite good, though we need another ST, CB And even that we have a lot of midfielders. We need a CDM I Think.

To sum it up, looks like there is a bright season ahead of us :)
